E-Money and Payment Systems

E-money (electronic money) is an exciting new development in the usually staid world of payments and may move the U.S. consumer to directly participate in the electronic payments system for the first time. However, many questions remain unanswered, and the consumers in the United States have been slow to accept these new payment methods. Many reasons have been postulated, but given the growing popularity of e-money in the rest of the world, U.S. acceptance may soon be forthcoming, especially considering the effort and dollars expended by both credit card companies and major banks in the United States to promote this new payment method.
