Chapter 9 Information Technology and Productivity Gains
and Cost Saving in Companies Starting from a short discussion of the specific characteristics of information and communication technologies (IT) and the stage of their diffusion, this chapter reviews the empirical evidence on the productivity effects and the cost saving effects of IT at the firm level. The results on the productivity effects of IT are mainly based on econometric analyses, whereas results on the cost saving effects of IT mainly refer to case study evidence. |
