The Software
Colander - Holes in Messaging
Andy Clark, Operations Director, Entegrity Solutions Corp, UK
Technical Stream
- Wednesday 1 November 2000
In 1997 Vince
Gallo of Entegrity Solutions postulated a new class of attack on computers
using standard messaging protocols to enable covert control of a target
machine. At the time this approach seemed technically feasible, but
had not been developed and tested. In the intervening years the attack
has been developed and verified as effective. Defence strategies and
techniques have also been developed.
With growing awareness
of Information Warfare techniques and targets, commercial companies
need to understand the techniques that can be employed to covertly penetrate
their organisations IT infrastructure. This talk will demonstrate covert
messaging attacks in real-time and discuss the measures necessary to
protect against them.
