e-commerce and
the Insecurity of the Internet
Dr Vinton
Cerf, Senior Vice President for Internet
Architecture
and Technology, WorldCom, USA
Plenary presentations
- Thursday 2 November 2000
In this keynote,
I will explore a variety of security issues and policies. Security,
reliability and integrity are important aspects of supporting e-commerce
on the net. Policies for privacy protection are also important and represent
potential liability areas for ISPs and ASPs who enter into the ecommerce
arena. Matters get even more complex when this subject is considered
from an international perspective.
Biography: Dr Vinton
Cerf is the co-designer of the TCP/IP protocol, the computer communications
language that gave birth to the Internet and widely known as the 'Father
of the Internet'. In December 1997 Vinton and his partner, Robert E
Kahn, were presented the US National Medal of Technology by President
Bill Clinton, for founding and developing the worldwide network. Vinton
has served as founding President of the Internet Society from 1992 to
1995 and recently completed his term as Chairman of the Board. In addition
to his work on behalf of WorldCom and the Internet, Cerf appears on
television programmes including NextWave with Leonard Nimoy and on World
Business Review with Alexander Haig. He also holds an appointment as
distinguished visiting scientist at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory where
he is working on the design of an interplanetary Internet.
