Venue and Accommodation

The conference will take place in the Palais des Congrès de Versailles situated a few minutes walk from the magnificent Château.

The Château de Versailles was originally a hunting lodge built by Louis XIII and was extended by his son, Louis XIV the Sun King, at the height of his power to accommodate the Court and the Government.

Versailles saw a number of major historic events: the beginning of the French Revolution in 1789 when the Royal Family were forced to leave the Château, the proclamation of the German Empire during the period from 1871 to 1879 when it was Prussia's seat of political power and the signing of the peace Treaty in 1919 at the end of World War I.

The magnificent and historic Château and gardens are open to the public.

Transport
Versailles is located to the south west of Paris and has good access from central Paris railway stations and the airports at Roissy Charles de Gaulle (about 40 minutes by car) and Orly (about 20 minutes by car).

Transport information will be given with registration receipts. In Versailles there are several stations. The most convenient for the Palais des Congres is Gare R.G. (Rive Gauche) with trains running from Les Invalides and stopping at St Michel, Tour Eiffel and other stations on the Rive Gauche. The journey takes about 35 minutes from St Michel and the Palais is about a 5 minute walk from the Gare R.G. The Gare des Chantier has a fast service from Montparnasse taking about 12 minutes, however, it is about 15 minutes to walk from this station to the Palais des Congres.

Accommodation
Hotel accommodation in Versailles is quite limited and so early booking is recommended. Alternatively, central Paris has good train links with Versailles, as mentioned above, and offers a wider choice of evening entertainment than Versailles.
