Current Readings in Transport Economics Vol.3, No.3, 2005

This issue is dominated by congestion charging: especially the special issue of Transportation Research Part A, Vol.39/7-9 (2005), “Theory and practice of congestion charging”. Guest edited by Walter Wong, Robert Noland and Mike Bell, it presents an up-to-date snap shot of work on the theory and practice of congestion charging, and should stimulate further work in this important field.

As well as this core topic we have our usual cluster of papers on themes as diverse as ethanol production, airport competition, and motorway renewal costs, so hopefully we have something for everyone!

Review of the Month

Acceptability of Transport Pricing Strategies, Jens Schade and Bernhard Schlag
"...Provides complementary breadth in exploring public and political acceptability from a variety of viewpoints. Provides an interdisciplinary look at acceptability issues drawing on political, economic, sociological, psychological, and institutional (transportation professional) perspectives and seems to emphasize the relevant facets of the 'acceptability problem' and to underscore the need for interdisciplinary research in finding solutions."
Michael Iacono, Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, University of Minnesota, USA in Journal of Transport Geography, May 2005
