Thomas and Jean Sutherland EAAP Scholarships 2002
EAAP has pleasure in acknowledging the gift by Dr. Tom and Mrs. Jean Sutherland
in making available five scholarships to enable young scientists from any Near
East and North African country to attend the forthcoming Cairo EAAP Annual Meeting
from 1-4 September, 2002 and present their research and/or experimental results
orally in a theatre or as a poster. The scholarship covers travel expensesa
daily sustaining allowance (DSA), and full registration for the meeting including
the special sessions and symposia.
Tom Sutherland is an eminent animal scientist, originally from the UK, who moved
to the USA where he has been a faculty member in Animal Science at Colorado
State University for many years. As Dean of Agriculture of the American University
of Beirut, Lebanon, he was kidnapped and held hostage for six years. EAAP wishes
to thank Tom and Jean Sutherland for their generous spirit in providing the
funds for these very special scholarships.
European Union DG-Research Scholarships
EAAP wishes to acknowledge that, under the "Accompanying Measures" programme
of the European Union DG-Research a number of scholarships for young scientists
under 35 years of age will be provided for attendance at the EAAP Annual Meeting
in Cairo. The Scholars will present their papers either orally or as posters.
The scholars will also attend the special training course on “Writing and Presenting
Scientific Papers and Reports” and several specialized workshops.
The scholarships provide especially for scholars from 13 Central and East European
States (CEEC) that are candidates for EU membership; and for nine States on
the Mediterranean rim, incorporating the geographic area where the EAAP Annual
Meeting will take place. In principle, only one scholarship will be granted
per country. Applications closed earlier in 2002.
Technical Notes in Livestock Production Science
EAAP and Elsevier, the joint owners of Livestock Production Science are pleased
to announce that the Journal will start to publish Technical Notes in addition
to the main stream Scientific Papers, EAAP News and Position Papers.
A Technical Note is a report on a new method, technique or procedure falling
within the scope of Livestock Production Science. It may involve a new algorithm,
a new computer programme (for example for statistical analysis or simulation)
or a new testing method etc. The Technical Note is the way of publication choice
when the information involved cannot adequately be incorporated in a report
on the results of scientific research, but is of sufficient value to be brought
to the attention of readers of Livestock Production Science. The note should
describe the nature of the new method, technique or procedure and clarify how
it differs from current ones. The paper should contain reference to a source
where complete information can be obtained should such detail not be possible
within the Technical Note itself.
