About this virtual journal

Introduction

The Virtual Journal of Environmental Sustainability is available exclusively on the Web. It is a virtual journal in that it lists articles with an environmental sustainability component recently published in a wide range of Elsevier journals. The articles are personally selected by the Editors, Dr Naoyuki Funamizu, Professor Toshimasa Oh-hara, Professor Takayuki Shimaoka, and Professor Tsuyoshi Fujita, on the basis of their potential to highlight interesting and important developments in the area of environmental sustainability.

The purpose of this virtual journal is essentially twofold. Firstly, it provides users with an expert literature search for environmental sustainability papers across the whole range of Elsevier's journals in Environmental Sciences. These journals each have their own original scientific orientation, and in combination cover general resources management, life cycle assessment, waste management, policy regulations and environmental risk assessment. Secondly, these papers, together with the opinions and ideas available in the viewpoints section, provide users with a solid basis for reflection and analysis pulling together the work undertaken in many different disciplines.
