Dr. Funamizu's major area of interest is the development of Onsite Wastewater Differentiable Treatment System based on the sustainable sanitation concept. His specific interests are fate of micro-pollutants and health risk assessment in composting type toilet system. For more information, see the homepage of the Urban Water System Engineering department.
Dr. Oh-hara's major area of interest is the urban and regional air pollution. His specific interest is development of numerical simulation system and emission inventory for air pollution in urban and Asian region. Also, he is interested in the influence of human activity on the atmospheric environment in Asia.
Dr. Shimaoka is a Professor at the Department of Civil Engineering at Kyushu University. He has conducted research on development of advanced landfill methods, utilization of waste incineration residue as construction material, application of remote sensing for waste management, biochemical and mineralogical stabilization of landfilled solid waste, and mass transportation in a landfill site.
Dr. Fujita's current fields for research and education are integrated policy planning and evaluation system for river basin management based on spatial analysis of material flow and economic costs and benefits by GIS tools. He is also engaged in international regional management research groups such as the International Society of Industrial Ecology.
